I had my first Opinions piece published in the college newspaper today. Not hating on my editor at all—seriously, you’re the best—but a point was added to my article that I hadn’t originally intended to focus on and it has come under fire in the comments section. And by “under fire,” being the overdramatic person that I am, I of course mean two snotty comments, one of which told me not to get my panties in a bunch.
Excuse me, sir (or madam, no stereotypes here), but I will get my panties in a bunch in an op-ed piece if I damn well feel like it. That’s kind of the point if I’m not mistaken, and don’t think I missed the condescending implications of your phrasing when you were accusing me of essentially being a feminist alarmist. But as much as the negative comments suck, which all of us bloggers know they do, at least they’re criticizing my opinions and not my writing. Haters gonna hate, but as long as they don’t knock my narrative steez* I’m cool with it.
Anyways, the published version is hyperlinked above and I’ll post my original here in a few. Look it over, let me know what you think. Bad business strategy, not sexism, was my intended focus and I hope you see that come through.
PS: My negative commenter’s name is Ras, so clearly he/she is the evil mastermind behind the downfall of Gotham and I don’t want him to agree with me anyway, so there.
*I know, I know, I am just so ghetto right guys?
